Father and Son Tragically Killed in High-Speed Crash on Australia Day in Brisbane

A father and his young son have tragically lost their lives in a high-speed crash on Australia Day in Brisbane. The crash, involving a Holden Commodore sedan and a Mitsubishi Lancer, took place at an intersection in the suburb of Ransome just before 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Details of the Crash

The Holden driver, 37-year-old Chris Vrbesic from Manly West, was killed instantly. His four-year-old son, who was in the car, was rushed to Children’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 29-year-old man from Birkdale, suffered only minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Investigation into Speed and Cause of the Crash

The Forensic Crash Unit has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators are looking into whether speed played a role in the incident. They are also asking for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.

A Friend Remembers Chris Vrbesic

A close friend of Chris Vrbesic spoke emotionally about the tragedy. “He was a family man with a huge heart, always helping others,” the friend said. “This is going to affect so many people. It just doesn’t make sense.”

The Scene of the Crash

Photos from the scene show the Holden Commodore severely damaged, overturned in a ditch. The Mitsubishi Lancer also sustained significant damage to its front. It appears the two cars collided in a T-bone fashion at the intersection.

An automotive enthusiast, Chris worked as a project manager for Innate Developments, a company that specializes in residential and commercial construction. Colleagues and friends remember him for his hard work and generosity.
