Death row inmate who murdered two has haunting final words to victims’ families before being executed by lethal injection

Texas executed Richard Lee Tabler by lethal injection for the 2004 murders of Mohammed-Amine Rahmouni and Haitham Zayed near Killeen. Tabler, 46, lured the victims out before shooting them, later confessing to the crime. Though he also admitted to killing two teenage girls, he was never tried for their deaths.

After multiple appeals, Tabler ultimately requested the courts to proceed with his execution. In his final moments, he expressed deep remorse to the victims’ families, saying, “There is not a day that goes by that I don’t regret my actions,” and asked for forgiveness.

He thanked prison officials for allowing him to change and rehabilitate, expressed love for his family, and apologized repeatedly before his death at 6:38 p.m. CST.

Claudia Van Wyk of the ACLU described him as a reformed mentor, while Tiffany Dotson’s godfather, Tom Newton, said, “Today is for Tiffany. And this is justice.”
